Trump Tide

In the most recent American election cycle, the anticipated wave of Republican victories was instead a trickle. Democrats, who had seized the White House in 2020, added one Senate seat and two governors’ offices and lost only nine seats in the House of Representatives. Leaders of the Republican Party blamed the failure on someone who wasn’t even running but loomed large over the party: Donald J. Trump. Several asserted that the Republican Party needed a new leader before the 2024 presidential election. Now the Trump tide is rolling in.
