The Power of Fear

Posted in uncategorized with tags , , , , on November 7, 2020 by andelino

An insidious disease is spreading across the globe. Authorities are struggling to contain the invisible enemy. Highly contagious and extremely deadly, this plague is reshaping the lives of men and women around the planet. When you turn on the TV, it is there. In your office, in your neighborhood—it has left no community untouched.

That disease is not coronavirus. “It is fear.”

Fear of the pandemic has spread faster than the virus itself. Fear of job loss. Fear of the unknown. Fear of educations suspended, families segregated, holidays canceled, businesses shuttered, homes quarantined.

Though a deadly terror to many, this coronavirus has been a boon to those seeking to hold the reins of power.

Not to let a pandemic go to waste, authorities the world over have harnessed that fear to enact a massive power grab. Unelected officials have suddenly found themselves imbued with unprecedented authority. From local councils to congressmen, Covid-19 has provided both the excuse and the impetus to seize more power.

Tucker Carlson saw the new powers being wielded by unelected officials and asked, “When do we get our country back?”

As he pointed out, the original plan was for life to return to normal after the curve flattened. That curve has come—and gone.

Now it is all about a vaccine. Once a vaccine is found and implemented, normal life will be restored. Or so we are told. Mandatory vaccination has already been suggested, but even forced vaccination may not bring a return to normality.

Curves and vaccines mean nothing to the likes of World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom, who said: “We will not, we cannot, go back to the way things were.”

There will be no getting our country—or world—back. Certainly not if the elites have their say. Even if Covid-19 goes, the fear is here to stay. The political establishment has seen what fear can accomplish—what fear has given to them. And they will not relinquish it easily.

As George Orwell wrote in his dystopian novel 1984, “We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end.” It is power, not an effort to stop the coronavirus, that many authorities have seized.

And many have become drunk on it. Who in 2019 could have predicted the geopolitical climate of 2020? Never in their wildest dreams could politicians have imagined they could deploy 70,000 troops to enforce lockdown measures.

What unelected health official could have hoped to open or close national borders? What Governor would dare to lock down a state? What about police using drones to hunt those nefarious people not wearing masks? What about police requesting the use of a military spy plane to track lockdown violators?

This is the power grab happening right now under the pretext of stopping the spread of coronavirus. And too many are letting it happen. We are trading public freedom for public health.

It is shocking to see how many people go along with these restrictions. Nonessential businesses are shut down. Residents cannot leave home except to buy groceries and essential items, or exercise.

Who is protesting the expansion of the State Emergency Response Act? Who is reporting on the fact that police now have the power to remove children from homes? Notice the wording in the Covid-19 Emergency Response Act of 2020:

“Without derogating from Section 25, an authorized officer may, for the purpose of ensuring compliance with any direction under that section, remove a child from any premises, place, vehicle or vessel to a place of residence of the child or to a hospital or quarantine facility, as the authorized officer thinks fit, and may, in doing so, use such force as is reasonably necessary.”

There is even talks for authorities enforcing vaccination, medical examinations and treatments? In a “climate of fear”, these are the laws Americans and many others around the world are seemingly happy to allow.

In another dystopian novel, “A Brave New World”, author Aldous Huxley wrote, “A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude.”

While many may not love the lockdowns, they certainly see it as a necessity. How tragic it is that free citizens openly or passively support government-mandated “house arrest!”

An environment of fear breeds conformity. Obviously nobody wants to die, or be sick. People want the pandemic to be over. And so, with the mainstream media screaming fear in one ear, and the medical prophets of doom in the other, it is little wonder people just accept the measures.

Fear encourages people to go along with the program. Just do as you are told. Don’t get in the way or kick up a fuss. Refusal will only make matters worse and drag the crisis out.

With few voices of dissent, who will check the power grab? It is in the best interest of the elites to keep people afraid. “A fearful population is a compliant one.” And what health officials would voluntarily be removed from the pedestal they now sit upon? Will they ever enact the sunset clauses built into these laws, or will the power grab be permanent?

What will prove to have the greater impact: coronavirus or the fear and panic it has spread? The fear is truly a “plague” of biblical proportions! And how ironic that the left—which disparages the Bible and religion—is promoting that climate of fear. They ought to read a few verses from those ancient texts. They might read a little about fear and why our nations seem stricken by it!

The Bible has a great deal to say about fear. In the book of Leviticus, God told Moses to record what would happen to Israel if they disobeyed Him. Among the curses found in Leviticus 26 is the following: “I will even appoint over you terror …” (verse 16). That word terror is defined in Strong’s Concordance as “panic, destruction.”

Isn’t it clear that terror is appointed over us? In verse 17, God warned that Israel would flee even when none pursues it! Covid-19 has the death-rate of a bad flu season. Yet we flee before it. We shut our economies and hide in our homes!

These verses are prophecy being fulfilled before our eyes right now. There is a state of unjustified terror permeating our world. The good news is that God provides the antidote to fear, “Replacing Fear With Hope.”

In ancient times, the Prophet Jeremiah received visions of terrible end-time events. It caused him some sleepless nights, but he found comfort by keeping the vision of what comes after! In Jeremiah 31:23-24, God’s prophet looks ahead to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. And the result?

“For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. Upon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.” Jeremiah had been losing sleep over the terrible prophecies, but looking beyond to Christ’s return was a great comfort. This gave him peace despite the fearful times and persecution he faced.

The Apostle Paul was inspired to write to the Hebrews of the “hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18). Paul is talking about a living hope! Lay hold of that! Do everything you can to make sure you have that in your life. Get a grip on it. There is no reason for us going around discouraged and beaten down. God says we need to work, study and pray to lay hold on this wonderful hope. Hope replaces fear.

If only our nations had a small iota of that living hope. How differently we might respond to the calamities facing our nations! We need to stir up that living hope. We can have a relationship with our Maker and grasp the vision of where we are in His master plan. We can act on that hope!

We can live our lives as Proverbs 28:1 states: “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.”

China Reparation Poll

Posted in uncategorized with tags , , , , , on April 14, 2020 by andelino

Unlike national media, most Americans “blame” China for the coronavirus pandemic and think the Chinese government should “pay reparations” for failing to prevent the “coronavirus” from becoming a pandemic, according to a Harris poll published recently.

A majority of respondents—54 percent—said they agreed that China should be “required to pay other countries for the spread of the virus.” A majority of independent voters expressed “support” for Chinese reparations, as did 41 percent of Democrats.

The poll’s findings suggest that most Americans, and most Democrats, are not “persuaded” by the national media’s efforts to “downplay” China’s role in causing the pandemic, which in some cases has included the promotion of Chinese propaganda.

For example, 77 percent of Americans and 67 percent of Democrats said China was “responsible” for the spread of the coronavirus. Almost as many Americans—72 percent—said the Chinese government has not been accurately “reporting” information about the virus’s impact in China; 66 percent of Democrats agreed.

President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to impose tougher “trade restrictions” on China are also popular: Sixty-nine percent of Americans and 53 percent of Democrats say they support such policies. Even Trump’s controversial use of the phrase “China virus” is seen as more acceptable than not.

According to the poll, 52 percent of Americans agree with Trump’s characterization of the virus, while 48 percent disagree.

Pandemic Hype of Fear

Posted in uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on March 20, 2020 by andelino

Coronavirus is only the beginning—and a very small beginning at that! The World Health Organization declared that it recognizes the coronavirus disease (covid-19) as a pandemic, stating, “Pandemic is not a word to use lightly or carelessly.

The last pandemic was the Chinese “swine flu” in 2009, which killed about 200,000 people worldwide, including some 15,000 Americans.

President Donald Trump said he was authorizing actions to “unleash the full power of the federal government,” and added, “I am officially declaring a national emergency, two very big words.”

As of this writing, there are about 200,000 confirmed cases of the “Chinese Wuhan Flu” causing about 8,000 deaths. The U.S. has suffered about 100 coronavirus deaths so far.

For perspective, this article gives daily totals of how many people die every day from all causes, including 4,383 people dying from diabetes worldwide, 3,287 from car crashes, and more than 1,100 from homicides.

So how do these numbers compare to other deadly diseases? Here is a graph of the Average Disease Deaths per Day worldwide.

The current estimate for the “fatality” rates for the coronavirus just don’t add up. The estimates based on current data are completely inaccurate. Current data shows that this virus is much less “deadly” that even the common flu from the 2019-2020 season.

So on one hand, the “media hype” over this pandemic is “overblown,” especially when you compare it to previous pandemics and other, more serious, dangers we face on a daily basis.

That said, it is refreshing to see government officials, public health experts and ordinary citizens take some “positive” action when it comes to stopping the spread of a dangerous disease.

To see the world suddenly concerned about certain laws of “quarantine and hygiene” after blatantly disregarding these principles for so long is truly a sight to behold!

But without God and His inspired Word as our sure foundation, mankind never seems to find the right balance. Last week the media “scolded” President Trump for shaking hands with world leaders and for not being “tested” for covid-19, even though he had absolutely no symptoms. This is what “distresses” the left-wing media!

Over the weekend, the “corpulent” governor of Illinois said, “No matter how healthy you feel, if you can, stay home.” Quarantining “healthy” people to stop the spread of disease goes well beyond the principle of God’s law of quarantine.

But that is what many health-care officials are now calling for. America’s go-to expert on infectious disease, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said “If it looks like you’re overreacting, you’re probably doing the right thing.”

This is now how we “fight” the spread of infectious disease—by overreacting?

“If public health officials encourage you to remain calm and not panic, that is rotten advice” says columnist Peggy Noonan. We need “overreaction and mass hysteria” so say the experts.

President Trump, the man who enacted “travel bans” on China and Europe, has actually been “criticized” for not being “apocalyptic” enough when discussing covid-19!

Consider this “doomsday” report from Saturday’s New York Times:

“Between 160 million and 214 million people in the United States could be infected over the course of the epidemic. That could last months or even over a year, with infections concentrated in shorter periods, staggered across time in different communities, experts said. As many as 200,000 to 1.7 million people could die.”

So far, about 8,000 people have died. But “fear mongering” experts say it could be 1.7 million! The Times went on to say that as many as 21 million Americans might require “hospitalization” and America has less than a million hospital “beds” available!

And they wonder why Americans are fighting with each other at supermarkets for “food, medicine, bottled water and toilet paper.”

These “scaremongers” are advocating total surrender to “panic, fear and mass hysteria.” Fear of disease is adding more problems to the disease itself! If only we would “fear” God as much as the disease and consider “His” ways!

President Trump called for a “National Day of Prayer” to be held Sunday, March 15, for all those affected by the coronavirus pandemic. He encouraged Americans to “pray for God’s healing hand.” He even quoted one of my favorite verses: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7.

Sadly, though, there was nothing in the proclamation about “repentance” from sin or “obedience” to God’s laws, whether spiritual or physical.

God’s Word says, “And whatsoever we ask in prayer, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” 1 John 3:22

God answers the prayers of those who turn to Him in “repentance and faithful obedience.” His ears are open to the prayers of the righteous, “but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.” 1 Peter 3:12

One of the major reasons why so many “prayers” are not answered is that God will not listen to a person who “rebels and persistently disobeys” His Word. God is trying to get the attention of our “disobedient” nation before it is too late.

We are, even now, in the very preliminary stages of what the Bible calls the “great tribulation”! In other words, what we are seeing happen in the world today is just a tiny preview of the “curses” that will soon overwhelm this planet!

You can read more about this in Leviticus 26  and Deuteronomy 28.

God is in close control over exactly how much “devastation” He allows to unleash. He is not destroying indiscriminately: “He is punishing the world in love and in measure to help mankind turn from the paths of destruction to the way of truth and peace!”

Here is the lesson God wants us to learn during these trying times: “Consider your ways, repent toward God, and then you can truly cast all your care upon Him; for He cares for you.”

How should “dedicated” followers of Jesus respond? Here are three brief answers:

  1. Be Calm. Christians ought to be the calmest people on earth because we know the Lord, and He holds the future in His hands. There is no panic in heaven over this pandemic. If you spend all your time perusing the latest news, you will doubtless lose your perspective. Focus on the Lord, remember His promises, and all will be well.
  2. Be Prepared. Since no one can say what tomorrow will bring, we would do well to stock up on the essentials we will need. All of us will likely be quarantined to one degree or another. At the very least, we’ll all spend more time at home than usual. So be prepared. Stock up on your prescription drugs. Buy some cleaning supplies. Make sure you have enough food to get through a week or two.
  3. Be ready to share. Keep your eyes open for those in need. This includes senior citizens, the sick, and those who are otherwise overlooked by society. We will all find plenty of opportunities to minister in the days ahead. We need not give in to fear. Take wise precautions, wash your hands, pray for “missionary eyes” to see those who need a word of encouragement, walk by faith, remember God’s promises, and let your light shine.

Hebrews 12:26 tells us that “once more” God will shake the world before the coming of Christ. That perspective helps us think wisely about the coronavirus pandemic. God is using a tiny “microbes” to bring the world to a standstill.

When people ask, “Does God still speak today?” I tell them not to worry about it because he’s got your number on His speed dial, and when he calls, you won’t put him on “call waiting.” He can ring us up any time of the day or night.

Why would God speak to us this way? Hebrews 12:27 says God is shaking everything that can be shaken, all the things built by mankind, so that only unshakable things can remain. Eugene Peterson gave us this paraphrase: “The phrase ‘one last shaking’ means a thorough housecleaning, getting rid of all the historical and religious junk so that the unshakable essentials stand clear and uncluttered.”

Unshakable essentials. That says it all. God is “shaking” the earth so that we will figure out what matters most. Here’s the good news. Out of these “shaky” days will come a vast “spiritual” harvest. People are asking questions because they want to know who they can “trust.” What a wonderful opportunity for ministry is being opened for us.

Don’t “despair” and don’t give in to “fear.” We were made for times like these. Sovereign Lord, you are the “firm foundation” beneath our feet. We trust in you, and we will not be moved. When the kingdoms of the earth “crumble to dust” your words will still be true.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” Proverbs 3:5-8

As the Coronavirus continues to spread, I’m amazed at the “fear” it is creating in many people’s lives, when “God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

I am amazed at how ”fear” has gripped so many people’s lives. My heart has been led to pray that the Lord would use this “pandemic hype” to cause the nations and peoples to realize in a new way Psalm 9:20Strike them with terror, LORD; let the nations know they are only mortal..”

Often in prosperity, we can turn away from total “dependence” upon God and believe that we are in control. In a real way, I believe God wants to humble us in a fresh dependence upon Him. I encourage you to read Palm 91 and ask God to speak to you in the midst of this “pandemic hype of fear.“

I have been wondering what the other end of this looks like. Thus far more people have died on the “highways” this year than from the “apocalyptic” virus infestation in the USA. The deaths from the regular, annual flu” dwarf the number of deaths from the “coronavirus.” We never hear a word about that. Where was the “panic, fear and mass hysteria” when the flu killed thousands of us last year. Yawn, no one cared then, nor cares now.

Obviously, this is totally “agenda” driven. Just like “gun” issues is not about guns. It is about “control.” This is about getting people to accept “Marshal Law” conditions. And the people are bending over and taking it. Eating it up with a spoon. I wonder where all the adults went.

The mandatory “closing of businesses” enrages me. I guess no one is responsible enough to make the decision by themselves. I heard that San Francisco is under “mandatory” self quarantine. The “news” said that people are allowed out of their housing only for visits to the grocers or pharmacy.

I wonder if they can also go outside to move their “bowels” in the street as is their right? What about the massive “homeless” population. Where do they “self quarantine”?

If you’ve been suffering from the Chinese “Wuhan Flu” overload and could use a little boost to get you over the hump read When Wuhan Virus Departs, World Will Be Changed by Michael Walsh. It will give you something to look forward to.

All that is left now is shaking my head at the “Current Truth.” The premise is that this “pandemic tribulation” exposes the shortcomings in many arenas not the least of which is the ongoing battle between the progressive left’s desire to break down every societal tradition.
