Mistake for Britain?

Just like that, Britain now has its third prime minister in seven weeks. And he happens to be a proud Hindu.

Rishi Sunak’s accession is cause for hearty self-congratulation in today’s United Kingdom. The entire kingdom is slapping itself on the back for empowering a nonwhite man. Even Labor members of Parliament are pausing their partisan attacks to express their enthusiasm.

The Telegraph called Sunak’s rise “the closest thing this country has had to the Barack Obama story” (speaking of ethnicity, not politics). Such a comparison should give Britons pause: America’s preoccupation with race and identity politics certainly contributed to Obama’s political success, and this has proved disastrous for the country.
