Air Defense System

Europe’s fascination with the deceased mass murderer continues.

Surrounded by images and a large statue of Charlemagne, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for a new joint air defense system on August 29. In a keynote speech at the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, he said: “If we jointly develop an air defense system in Europe, it will not only be more efficient and cost-effective, it would also be a security gain for Europe as a whole, and an outstanding example of strengthening the European pillar within Nato.” Europe’s quest for independence naturally means less reliance on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. But is Europe ready to be militarily independent? The example of Charlemagne shows what Europe lacks.

Pelosi Trip to Taiwan

The visit and the CCP’s reaction, with the Chinese Ambassador to France predicting that all Taiwanese will need “re-education,” may help the cause of human rights in China. But a follow-up is needed.

The visit to Taiwan by the Speaker of the US House, Nancy Pelosi, and her meeting with the Republic of China’s President, Tsai Ing-wen, on August 3, 2022, are still causing reactions and roars. China is outraged. It defined the trip a blatant and futile provocation, immediately started military drills in the region, interrupted any dialogue with the United Stated, threatened “serious consequences,” and even sanctioned Pelosi.
